Seismic out-of-plane retrofit of URM walls using timber strong-backs

چکیده

Inadequate seismic performance of unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings is frequently encountered in earthquake prone countries such as Italy and New Zealand consequently, effective economical retrofit strategies need to be adopted order guarantee safety the preservation URM building stock. The technique studied herein consisted connecting vertical timber elements (strong-backs), interior surface walls a using mechanical screws or bolts. framing typically non-structural support for inner wall lining its use, part retrofits, resulted being cost low impact solution. out-of-plane behaviour as-built retrofitted was investigated by conducting full scale static airbag tests. were subjected semi-cyclic loading through application uniformly distributed loads, inflated airbags simulate self-weight inertia force induced an earthquake. Five different specimens tested conditions, improvement capacity recorded performances configurations investigated. A simplified numerical model predict response strong-backs developed finite element software SAP2000. Its effectiveness validated means comparison between experimental results well sensitivity analysis on parameter variations, further considerations solution drawn.

Out-of-plane Behavior of Urm Walls Strengthened with Nsm Gfrp Bars

Unreinforced masonry (URM) walls are prone to failure when subjected to out-of-plane loads caused by earthquakes or high wind pressures. In this context, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) materials may be a solution to solve or lessen the effects of this overloading. This paper describes an experimental program dealing with the flexural behavior of nine concrete URM walls strengthened with glass F...

Retrofit of Un-Reinforced Infill Masonry Walls with FRP

This paper describes an experimental program that deals with retrofitting of infill un-reinforced masonry walls (URM) with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP). The primary objective of this research is to develop a retrofit strategy that while economical will minimize the influence of the retrofit on the overall performance of structural frames in predominant seismic regions. Allowing some damage to...

assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
